Angela O'Brien-Malone
Print artist, painter and printmaker

Persephone and her Crucible
Angela is an emerging contemporary Australian painter and printmaker. She is a graduate of the Australian National University School of Art where she studied with Patsy Payne and John Pratt to refine her skills in printmaking and drawing.

Angela's elaborate visual language is drawn from the imaginative world, particularly from that part which dwells at the edge of consciousness. Some of her images derive from the same sources as those from which dreams and daydreams come, and she invests her works with the kinds of fragments and forms that appear fleetingly in the imagination when one looks at something new, unusual or strange.

Her enigmatic works frequently draw on unconscious and universal aspects of ancient stories and myths. One series of prints, for example, relates to the Greek myth of the Minotaur. Some of her more recent paintings are concerned with the story of Persephone in her various guises (see the Images tab and the work on this page). Other frequently recurring motifs include the Crucible, the Doll, and the Trancendent Journey.
